A pan blackened by time is not necessarily good for the trash. On the contrary ! According to Arnaud Munster, participant in season 15 of Top Chef, there is a simple solution to restore the blackened edges of your pan or saucepan. All you have to do is prepare a traditional copper paste. The ingredients are simple: flour, coarse salt and a little water.

Due to the intense heat of cooking, the oxidation of metal or grease and cooking residue, our kitchen utensils such as frying pans and pots sometimes turn black over time. Fortunately, it is possible to scrub them, quite easily. Those who have gone through hotel school know this and, today, Arnaud Munster reveals this secret to us.

In a large bowl, mix flour, coarse salt and a little water. Mix using a whisk until you obtain the consistency of pancake batter. Then take a sponge and rub the mixture on the back of your pan or saucepan. Rub quite vigorously. Then leave the mixture on for five to ten minutes before rinsing with clean water. Your stove is like new, ready to be used again!

The chef advises “to avoid destroying the edge of the pan, we will place it on a cloth, which allows us to put a lot of weight while rubbing”. A good way to clean properly, without damaging the Teflon of the utensil.

There are also other methods for cleaning your blackened pans. For example, it is possible to opt for a mixture of lemon and coarse salt. Then cut a lemon in half, sprinkle coarse salt on each half and apply to the outside of your pan or saucepan. Rub, paying particular attention to the clogged areas. Then rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. This tip should restore all its shine to your favorite utensil.
